Nairi-Coxa Clinic

General characteristic

In March of 2016 at Nairi Medical center, in collaboration with Finnish orthopedic clinic "Coxa", in order to invest world achievements in the field of joint replacement "Nairi - Coxa" clinic was established.

Around one third of the world population suffers from various disorders of locomotor apparatus function. Joint diseases have their leading place among these pathologies and often lead to the disability development.

In collaboration with leading specialists of Finnish clinic “Coxa” we have been performing surgeries on endoprosthesis of hip and knee joints, as well as revisions of joints, which are the operations on re-prosthesis of prosthesis that had been done before and went outworn, as well as the complicated joints. These types of surgeries have been performed for the first time in Armenia at Armenian – Finish clinic "Nairi - Coxa". In spite of absolutely identical with Finnish clinic quality and level of operatic intervention, it is significantly accessible for the patients regarding the price and comfort.

Joint endoprosthesis – it is a surgery on replacement of joint components with implants that have anatomical form of healthy joint and allow to implement the whole volume of movements. The main target of joint endoprosthesis is a decrease of pain syndrome and recovery of joint function. Joint replacement – is an effective, and sometimes the only way to recover its functions, that allows significantly to improve the quality of life. After these types of surgeries, the patient forgets about pains in joints and returns to the normal life.

For joint replacement at our Center we use prosthesis from the leading companies – manufacturers of endoprosthesis. Each prosthesis passes the multistage control and has certification.

Material, from which the joint endoprosthesis are made, have high durability and good acclimatization. Hence, their service life in average is 15-20 years, and in many cases the patients use it up to 30 years.  Metal endoprosthesis are made of different stainless-steel alloys.

Surgery of endoprosthesis is carried out for different diseases and traumas of joint apparatus, which led to the full or practically full loss of movement functions:

  • Degenerative – dystrophic diseases (all types of osteoarthrosis arthritis),
  • Bekhterev disease, attended by joint destruction,
  • aseptic necrosis of the head of hipbone,
  • intra – articular fractures,
  • joints dysplasia,
  • cervical hip fracture.

Absolute contradictions to surgeries are:

  • Cardiovascular diseases, diseases of bronchopulmonary system in the stage of decompensation,
  • focus of purulent infection (tonsillitis, dental caries, chronic maxillary sinusitis and otitis, pyodermatites),
  • psychiatric or neuromuscular disorders,
  • active or latent infection in the joint region of not less than 3 months,
  • skeleton immaturity,
  • polyallergy,
  • absence of marrowy canal of hip bone,
  • acute diseases of lower extremities’ vessels (thrombophlebitis, thromboemboly).

Relative contradictions:

  • oncologic diseases,
  • chronic, somatic diseases,
  • hepatic insufficiency,
  • hormonal osteopathy,
  • obesity, 3rd stage.

For each concrete joint disease there are specific symptoms, which allow to distinguish them from each other. But all of them have the following symptoms: pain during relaxation, during or after the physical exercises, joint stiffness and limitation of mobility, local changes in the affected region – skin redness, disturbance of sensitivity, high body temperature, deformation of bone and cartilage tissue, swelling, crunch and jamming during movements. All these not only significantly decreases the life quality, but also makes the patient disable with the decrease of patient’s capability to self – service.

If constant pain in the joint doesn’t let the patient implement the simplest daily movements, disturbs the rhythm of normal life, it is necessary to apply to orthopedist - traumatologist for consultation. The patient will be examined, X-Ray study will be provided and the characteristic of pathology will be determined.

The endoprosthesis surgery can be total and partial. During partial endoprosthesis there is carried out the replacement of only worn out parts of the joint, for example, the bone head or glenoid cavity. Therefore, this type of surgery is called single – pole endoprosthesis. In contrast to single – pole prosthesis, during total prosthesis the total replacement of joint with endoprosthesis is performed.

Before the surgery, the patient undergoes the complex examination, during which the indications and contraindications for surgical intervention have to be determined, as well as the careful measuring and selection of necessary prosthesis. Most often the surgeries for joint replacement are carried out without serious complications and allow practically in every case to achieve the recovery of patient’s motion activity, as well as to release him from the pain.

Innovative method of joint endoprosthesis is the advanced method all over the world due to the fact that after the surgical joint replacement, the patient gets to his feet and walks at the very day of the surgery, and the next day he goes upwards and downwards on the stairs. The same method ensures a stable pain relief during 3-4 days after the surgical period that makes comfort for the patient, and also is a necessary condition for him to get back to the normal activity.

The integral part and the earnest of success of this process is an early treatment of operated joint beginning from the first hours after the surgery, that is carried out by the rehabilitation specialists, who have undergone the special training in Finnish clinic “Coxa”.
